Sam F. Marshall stands at the forefront of 21st-century architectural innovation, blending avant-garde material science with transformative hospitality design. Over nearly three decades, he has redefined sustainable construction and luxury spaces on four continents, earning global recognition for harmonizing ecological rigor with artistic vision. As co-founder of BAAM and founder of cement pioneer Partanna, Marshall holds 17 patented concrete technologies that have revolutionized structural engineering, seismic resilience, and climate-responsive design.
Marshall’s career began in New York City, where he served as Project Designer and Director for Perkins Eastman, leading award-winning cultural and mixed-use developments. Among them is the Chongqing Library in China—an innovative marvel featuring cantilevered glass volumes and terraced gardens, honored with the 2009 AIA/ALA Library Building Award. Concurrently, he oversaw high-rise office and residential towers in Manhattan, integrating energy-efficient façades and modular systems that set new benchmarks for urban sustainability.
Relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, Marshall directed Perkins Eastman’s West Coast studio, collaborating with Bob Barry Design Associates on ultra-luxury hospitality ventures. For LXR Hotels (Blackstone), he orchestrated multiple five-star resorts and oversaw pioneering seven-star developments in Dubai. His collaborations with hospitality luminaries such as Stephen Starr, André Balazs, and Paddy McKillen yielded multiple iconic spaces.
In 2015, Marshall closed Marshall Projects to focus exclusively on material science, culminating in the 2020 launch of Partanna after five years of intensive R&D. The startup’s patented concrete alternative—crafted from desalination brine and recycled aggregates—absorbs 150 kg of CO₂ per ton produced while achieving 50 MPa compressive strength, further hardening in seawater.
Sam F. Marshall’s career epitomizes architecture’s capacity to tackle global challenges without compromising beauty or functionality. From orchestrating seven-star marine sanctuaries to spearheading carbon-negative materials poised to redefine urban resilience, his work offers clients unrivaled technical mastery, a portfolio of iconic projects, and a legacy of innovation. For ventures demanding visionary leadership in sustainable design and luxury hospitality, Marshall delivers transformative solutions grounded in three decades of boundary-pushing excellence.
